Woodfield's Gallon Bail Handle Oyster Can from Galesville Maryland

A vintage hard to find gallon bale handle oyster tin lithographed can from Woodfield Fish and Oyster Company in Galesville MD. Lots of different variations on cans from this company if you like to have a representation of them all.

It is in very good condition with great colors and ship graphics. It has its top with it. It measures about 7 1/4 inches tall. It displays great. A great piece to add for the nautical or maritime decor display for home, office or business.

Galesville is located on the Chesapeake Bay in Southern Anne Arundel County.

•     Founded: In 1917, Herman A. and William F. Woodfield, sons of a local waterman, purchased a Galesville oyster canning plant.
•     Peak Years: Between 1935 and 1945, Woodfield’s Fish & Oyster Company was processing and selling about 150,000 gallons of shucked oysters per year, making it one of the largest operations on the East Coast.
•     Industry Role: Galesville, a small village on the West River, was home to seven oyster packing houses during the early 20th century, reflecting the booming demand for oysters across the U.S.
