Wigeon Drake Wooden Duck Decoy by the Elliott Brothers
A early wooden drake Wigeon made in Easton MD by the Elliott Bros. Original paint and condition. A hard species to find in this good of condition. It has been used and hunted over. The Elliott brothers, who were twins were house painters, decoy makers and hunters by trade. A pair of only a hand full of carvers in Talbot County that made decoys for sale. Wm. T. "Bill" Elliott (1907-1983) and his brother Francis M. "Chank" (1907-1971) were well known for their root head geese and cork black ducks. They did make a few decorative pieces and miniatures which show up from time to time. This decoy is structurally sound with some sap on the back. Dry original paint has aged well. It is about 15 inches long and retains its original weight and rigging. Eastern Shore folk art at it's finest!
Their story is well documented in several decoy books. The "Boys" as they were affectionately know were laid to rest in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton MD.
